Melasma

Melasma is a pigmentation problem that is triggered by a combination of sun and hormones. It is most often seen in pregnancy and as a result of birth control pills. Typically the pigmentation is grey or brown-grey and develops on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip. Sun protection is a critical part of treatment. Topical retinoids and bleaching creams are helpful. IPL and Fraxel are also effective cosmetic treatments.
